Concept
This project emerged in response to the local urban development policies. Due to historical reasons, Chengdu has a large number of abandoned industrial buildings and aging residential communities. As the city has continued to develop, the government has gradually launched regeneration programs to redevelop these underutilized urban spaces.
The site I selected was once the largest steel factory in Southwest China during the last century. As the focus of Chengdu’s urban development shifted toward the city center and the southern districts, the factory gradually became abandoned. Today, only a small portion of the site remains in use, serving as a temporary flower market, a storage area for children’s playground equipment, and a sports center.

Design
The existing buildings have heights of approximately 20 meters and 25 meters. The program is organized across three levels.
The larger building is dedicated to tea-related functions, including a Tea Culture Museum as well as tea rooms on the first and second floors. The third floor serves as a shared space connecting both buildings. In addition to a restaurant and café, it also accommodates a clay workshop and a flower arrangement studio, creating opportunities for cultural activities and community engagement.
The smaller building is designed for the production, processing, and retail of flowers. It functions not only as a commercial space but also as a green urban environment, contributing to the site’s ecological and social character.
As a result, the overall spatial character of the site is designed to be inclusive and accessible to people of all ages and a wide range of social groups. Whether they are children, adults, or elderly, everyone can find functional spaces that suit their needs and interests.
